Ben Kennedy: Student and Driver

NASCAR Driver Ben Kennedy made waves last weekend in Daytona when he made the pole position for the Camping World Truck Series as a rookie. But you may not know that in addition to a full-time driver, Kennedy is also a normal college student. WUFT’s Tori Petry has more on this young talent.

FHSAA and Steroid Testing

Last month, the Florida High School Athletic Association approved a revision to their bylaws on steroid use. Tori Petry reports for WUFT to investigate what exactly this means for high school sports.

Only three states – Texas, New Jersey, & Illinois – currently test students for steroids. The FHSAA estimates it would cost $42 million to test every Florida high school athlete for performance-enhancing drugs.

FSU player cuts turf from Florida Field while UF band plays Alma Mater

FSU linebacker Telvin Smith took part in Florida State’s “Sod Cemetery” tradition on Saturday after FSU’s 37-7 win over the Gators by cutting a chunk of sod from Florida Field. Meanwhile, the Florida band played the Alma Mater in the background and the crowd ironically sang “All Hail, Florida, Hail!” as Smith defaced the Gator’s home turf.

According to tradition, Seminole players cut a piece of sod from the fields of championship and rivalry away games where they are victorious and bury it in the Sod Cemetery.
